The Elders' Journal was a periodical edited by the Prophet Joseph Smith from late 1837 to mid 1838. The periodical consisted of one volume, with four separate issues; two in Kirtland, Ohio, and two in Far West, Missouri. The periodical includes missionary letters from Wilford Woodruff, Heber C. Kimball, Sidney Rigdon, Parley P. Pratt, Orson Hyde, Erastus Snow, David W. Patten, and others. The journal also includes conference minutes, and other articles and speeches from Joseph Smith, including answers to frequently asked questions, as well as articles and speeches from Oliver Cowdery, Thomas B. Marsh, and others. Portions of this publication have been used in compiling significant works such as B.H. Roberts', Comprehensive History of the Church and Joseph Fielding Smith's, Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith. The republication of this early periodical will be a photo-reproduction of the original Elders' Journal. Editing is performed only for purposes of improving aesthetics (darken the font, increase the sharpness, minimize ink smears, etc.), and there has been no altering of text. If there are errors in the original, they are maintained in our publication. Pricing and availability of published copies will be forthcoming.
